I was having dinner with a close friend, fellow designer & pipe band snare drummer Gleren Meneghin in late 2015. After a few glasses of merlot and plenty of bagpipe chat, we realised there was no online hub for a more progressive style of bagpipe music which the next generation are keen to listen to – unique, untraditional and bold. We know the talent and music are out there.
That same dinner we began sketching out ideas on paper and not long after had a clear vision for what is now Unreel.fm. We recruited fellow bagpiper and developer whiz Mael Sicard-Cras to help bring the designs to life and not long after had a glossy product ready to share with the world.
There is no revenue stream for us – purely a passion project to inspire a younger generation and engage a wider audience. We do however recognise the hard work our artists put into advancing their craft and have enabled listeners with the ability to toss a few bucks directly to the musician’s bank account.
The site launched April 1st 2016 and so far has over 2,500 subscribers to our newsletter, roughly 10,000 visits a month and have even had the site featured on multiple design blogs including SiteInspire.
