Cargo Cult is an exhibition by furniture design master students from Aalto University, presented at Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair. It showcases 10 containers and storage units designed for storing precious personal belongings.
The sleek, minimalistic identity, by Finland based freelance designer Marina Veziko, aesthetically supports the mystical nature of the Melanesian ‘Cargo Cult’ belief system. Islanders from this region believed that modern goods from the western world would come to them if the conditions were right. The concept of the exhibition builds on this through the belief that improving the quality of our material goods such as furniture can help us live a happier life.
