Chāmpo by Commission

Chāmpo (pronounced char-pour) is a British haircare brand influenced by the ancient principles of Ayurveda and the founder’s Indian heritage. London based branding consultancy Commission were asked to develop the name, identity, packaging and art direction for the brand.

The Chāmpo products are split into three ranges named after the three Ayurvedic doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Each one takes aesthetic cues from the calligraphic nature of written Sanskrit to become a functional graphic device to depict hair type. The wordmark is kept simple and classic, with a nod to the calligraphic dosha marks present in the macron above the A.

The packaging is designed to be contemporary and elegant, but also neutral enough to feel at home in any bathroom. The functional but playful ring handle is designed to allow the bottle to be hung in the shower.
