Cousins Kathy and Dave had never met, but in the late 1960s, when Dave was conscripted to join the US Army and went to fight in the Vietnam War, they became pen pals at the insistence of Kathy’s mother.

Dave’s letters are presented in Letters to Kathy, Vietnam 1968|69, a hardcover book produced as a family gift, limited to just 15 copies. Through photography of the letters and a prologue and epilogue by the man himself, the book chronicles the horrors of war and the blossoming of a life-long friendship.

London-based Studio Lowrie designed the book with the intention that it will be passed down through generations. The minimalistic and timeless approach portrays a sense of calm, allowing the intense and emotional content to shine.
