Fiasco Design’s Open Internship programme returns for 2023, setting the precedent for inclusivity

Fiasco Design’s Open Internship programme returns for 2023, setting the precedent for inclusivity

Internships are considered a key stepping stone for any student or new designer’s career. It therefore makes sense that they be accessible for everyone, right? Ask any designer and they’ll likely recount their experiences, perhaps with a few barriers or turbulence along the way. Nowadays, studios’ progressive and proactive approaches continue to impress us. In a lot of ways, they’ve improved from the unpaid tea-making days and horror stories of masculine egos. Still, it would be ignorant to claim internships today are accessible to everyone.

Acknowledging the lingering limitations, Bristol-based studio Fiasco Design devised an Open Internship programme in 2022 – designed to address the industry’s continuing diversity problem and offer an inclusive opportunity to creatives, regardless of their academic background or financial circumstances. After the success of the first iteration, the programme returns has returned for a second year.

No CVs are required, accommodation and travel costs are covered, and the position is fully (and fairly) paid. The chosen candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of live briefs with Fiasco Design’s close-knit team, located within the creative cultural hub of Bristol, UK. The deadline for applications is Friday 19th May 2023 and informal interviews will commence from 22nd May 2023. The duration of the internship is 4-6 weeks and the salary is £19K p/a.
