“The overarching theme of storytelling is the inspiration behind the playful typographic layouts,” Melbourne-based Ashley Simonetto Studio tells us, describing her approach to Little Stories of You’s identity. A slow, sustainable children’s clothing brand setup to offer returns and replacements as kids continue to grow. “Like children’s poetry and literature,” Simonetto continues, “personified words effectively highlight and illustrate sentences,” taking an unconventional, patchwork style method of typographic styling throughout.

Sitting alongside and complementing the warm, ephemeral imagery of the brand, Simonetto’s charismatic typographic system draws directly on a sentimental return to childhood and the storybooks integral to it. Leading with Neuebel’s Elgoc as the leading typeface, Simonetto recalls, “Elgoc was selected as it embodies a balance of refinement and nostalgia,” finding a unique graphic space in return. “The aim of the identity is to create a look that entices both adults and children alike,” she explains, “through playful details, this is symbolic through the slanting of the letter ‘O.’”

This tone is contrasted by the neutrality and tranquillity of its supporting typefaces: Displaay’s Tobias and Cabin from Google Fonts. “These two fonts were selected as the foundation of the brand, as together, they too embody the balance of refinement and friendliness,” Simonetta details, calling on the typography and visual strength the two have combined. “Tobias is the selected serif typeface for headings as it adds a timeliness to the identity,” she recalls, pulling on the audience’s romantic storytelling strings, “whilst Cabin grounds the identity and also creates a contemporary feeling due to its simplicity.”

Further noting the additional details of Cabin, she adds, “the roundness of the letters and short height creates an appreciable look,” once again delicately complimenting the brand’s photography and its warm monochromatic palette, opting for a mix of mist and black. “The base colour palette is inspired by creamy cotton paper stock and pressed stamps,” Simonetta concludes, applied parallel to seasonal colours, released in line with Little Stories of You’s continual collections.
