Derek Swalwell is an Australian commercial photographer with an easy-going approach and a sharp eye for capturing architecture, interiors and landscapes. After many years of collaborating with Melbourne-based Studio Brave, he commissioned them to refresh his visual identity and printed matter.

Studio Brave found inspiration in Derek’s love for retro signage and poster art from California, resulting in a custom logotype with a distinctly relaxed character. The quirky sans serif mark is applied simply with plenty of negative space, reflecting both the highly-polished and human qualities of his photography.

The studio also worked with Derek on the book for his photographic series Farnsworth+Miller, a documentation of two of the worlds most recognised mid-century residences: Farnsworth House by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Miller House by Eero Saarinen.
