As insightful as it’s been to work from home throughout the pandemic, there’s a particular collaborative spirit that comes from a studio environment that isn’t easily recreated. With social distancing and quarantining a necessity throughout the majority of 2020, the graphic design industry has been forced to adapt to new methods unfamiliar to most, especially regular videos calls over Zoom.

During the hours spent isolated and working from home, did you ever wonder how it might feel to work from another design studio entirely? You’re in luck if you did, as Montreal-based studio Demande Spéciale has launched a collection of Zoom backgrounds just for you.

With contributions from all over the world, including Bielke&Yang in Oslo, Porto Rocha in New York and The Barkas in Copenhagen, Officesss allows you to make a video call from one of your favourite design studios. To build the collection, Demande Spéciale contacted studios and designers they admire as well as friends they’ve made across the globe through work. Ultimately, however, the project is open to every designer or studio that has an office.

Demande Spéciale tells us that the idea to launch Officesss came from missing “the whole social part of coworking with friends and other designers” and “bouncing ideas off each other, discussing projects and learning what others are doing”. Not only that, but it also gives people “a fun excuse to maybe discover a new studio or designer”, which is something we all love to do regularly.
