Hector Albertazzi is a Brazilian accessories brand for both the modern man and woman, who, in need of a sleek rebrand, reached out to São Paulo-based design studio U.I.WD. Not only would it need to introduce a modern character to the brand, but it would also need to retain its existing fashion and beauty-led essence. In response, the Brazillian studio developed an identity that communicates impact, elegance and simplicity whilst staying true to Hector Albertazzi’s innovative products and iconic images. They have introduced Michael Hagemann’s Marlin Sans as the leading typeface, bringing a classic style to the all-caps wordmark. “We wanted a typeface that could convey a modern and elegant feel while still being distinctive and unique,” U.I.WD. tell us, explaining the decision. “We explored many different options, but Marlin Sans stood out for its clean lines. And felt that it complemented their visual assets and applications.”

For these same reasons, black and white were the identity’s key colours, allowing for a monochromatic, timeless look. “Although we’ve chosen to work with the yellow as well,” U.I.WD. add, “which brings the idea of gold and shine that reflects some of their products.”

The observant among you will have also noticed that the ‘i’ in Albertazzi is set in lowercase. “We decided to create a visual surprise, and add a subtle touch of informality, playfulness and personality to the wordmark,” the studio note. “We also liked how it creates a rhythm and balance with the other letters, and how it echoes the concept of breaking the rules that the brand embodies,” they conclude.
