Elliott MoodyJavas Lehn Studio references sun rays and sundials for ‘slow-sipping’ tequila brand Solento
Solento is a small batch, single estate, organic tequila that was founded in late 2019 by award-winning surf filmmaker Taylor Steele. The brand is a ‘celebration of slow’, created as a reminder that experiences are better than material things.
It is available in three variants: Blanco, described as effortlessly smooth with subtle notes of citrus and vanilla; Reposado, a nine-month-old caramel blend; and Añejo, a smooth, buttery maple variety that spends eighteen months in an American Oak barrel.
Steele worked closely with New York-based Javas Lehn Studio to conceptualise, define and articulate an identity system for the brand, including typography, bottle design and campaign imagery. The name ‘Solento’ is a combination of the Spanish words for sun (sol) and slow (lento). This informed and inspired the majority of the branding, from the golden yellow colour palette to the bottle design, which is beautifully accented with diagonal ribs to evoke sun rays. Furthermore, the sparingly-used, sophisticated ’S’ logo is subtly reminiscent of a sundial. These elements elegantly come together to impeccably represent Solento’s ‘slow-sipping’ and premium ethos.
