Lundqvist & Dallyn’s bold identity for photographer Julia Johnson matches the vibrancy of her work

Lundqvist & Dallyn’s bold identity for photographer Julia Johnson matches the vibrancy of her work

Julia Johnson is a Los Angeles-based photographer and creative director whose portfolio is driven by a vibrant, character-driven aesthetic. Looking to further establish her solo work alongside her part in photography duo JUCO, Johnson turned to UK-based design duo Sara Lundqvist and Sam Dallyn, otherwise know as Lundqvist & Dallyn, for a new visual identity, stationery suite and website.

The result of their collaboration is a typographic showcase that aims to stand toe-to-toe with the photographer’s colourful imagery without completely overpowering it. At the identity’s core is a bespoke logotype that establishes just ‘Julia’ as Johnson’s go-to moniker. “The chunky bespoke type lays for foundations for the identity,” Sam Dallyn tells us, “shouting out over colour and imagery” with its flowing, geometric forms.

Supporting the typography is a vibrant palette of colour, ranging from the most primary of primary hues to softer mint greens and pastel pinks. “There are some common colours when looking through all of Julia’s images,” Dallyn adds, “so we drew upon these to define the palette.”
