Jason Oddy’s The Revolution Will Be Stopped Halfway is a photographic survey of Brazillian architect Oscar Niemeyer’s little-known work in Algeria. It documents the projects executed following a 1968 commission from President Houari Boumediene, consisting of universities, an Olympic sports hall, and a series of public structures conceived to capture his new vision of Algeria as a modern and independent nation.

The book design, by Glen Cummings and Melia Tandiono at New York-based studio MTWTF, plays with contrasting materials, assigning function to different textures. Each page is glossy on one side and matte on the other, meaning the texture alternatives throughout the publication. The glossy spreads are used for Jason Oddy’s photography, while matte spreads are used for typographic content. The high contrast between alternating spreads is elegant in its simplicity and provides a distinct tactile experience for the reader.
