Minimalist design has grown into a popular and timeless aesthetic due to its emphasis on uncluttered spaces and the exclusion of unnecessary elements, making it the perfect anecdote to the chaos of modern life. However, although it works across a variety of mediums – spanning visual identities and interiors – some may find its rigour and restraint too dull or lacking in character visually. As such, the maximalism movement has its place in the right scenario. Instead of extolling ‘less is more’ and paring everything down to a bare minimum, creatives express themselves in bigger, bolder and brighter ways that brim with personality. MORE IS MORE is an ode to the fearless few who deftly break design rules and push the boundaries to make eye-catching statements, be it by mixing clashing colours or matching disparate patterns and elements, or something else entirely. Dreams of New York is a project that evolved out of LA-based design studio Forth + Back’s ongoing love affair with the East Coast of the United States. They began wandering the streets of New York through Google Earth and eventually started to document the strange frozen images of life they found there. After countless digital forays into this weird wonderful landscape, they realised that there was something special happening that they needed to share with the world. This book is the result of that realisation; coming together as a 208-page dream-like documentation of what they found in New York on Google Earth over the span of three years. In its small first edition run, Dreams of New York was selected as one of AIGA’s winners of the 50 Books / 50 Covers competition for 2019. Get your copy
