A first look at POV Budapest: a spanking new design conference taking over the city in September

This September, something new is going to be happening in Budapest. The Hungarian capital will become home to the country’s first design conference, POV Budapest, imagined and brought to life by two local studios, COMET and CM.SUPPLY. As the Strategic Media Partner for the event, we’re excited to give you the very first look at the conference – which will take over Budapest’s National Dance Theatre on 19 and 20 September – and the ideas that shaped its making.

“We wanted to launch POV Budapest to fill a significant gap – Budapest is a vibrant, multicultural city with many design institutions and famous artists. Yet, we noticed the absence of a conference dedicated to visual practices,” says Boldizsár Mátyás from COMET. “Our goal is to place Budapest on the map alongside other prominent European cities, not just by showcasing local talent, but by inviting market leaders from all around the globe to join in. We aim to foster inspiration, celebrate our identities, and boost the growth of the local design community by exposing it to global perspectives and practices.”

Launched just as much to showcase the creative scene brewing and thriving in the city, as to also introduce the local talent to the works of some of the most exciting international design studios of the moment, the two-day festival promises to be chockablock with talks, workshops and events. The lineup is already looking sweet – amongst the host of studios and designers set to give attendees a peek into their practices are Pentagram, Porto Rocha, Kurppa Hosk, Snøhetta, Koto, Bleed and Anna Kulachek. We’ll also hear from many more participating studios, yet to be announced.

“We envision POV Budapest as an immersive experience, not just a conference,” shares Mátyás Czél from CM.SUPPLY. “I believe visitors will sense that the event is crafted with passion, organized by two local studios with the purpose of celebrating the visual culture that surrounds us. We have invested a great deal of effort into assembling a lineup that spans graphic design, architecture, film, and visual arts, as well as curating the talks. We are also thrilled to showcase the beautiful sights and the vibrant atmosphere of Budapest.”

If this has got you excited, we promise there’s lots more to come. Mark your calendars and head here to snatch your Early Bird ticket. See you in Budapest with a Lángos in hand!
