As part of their 2021 promotional gifting and a continuation of their self-initiated ‘Printer’s’ series, Sofia-based multi-disciplinary design studio inkpression conceived and crafted the Printer’s Chocolate Spread; a homemade, organic preserve created to not only show appreciation to their friends and clients but also to highlight their in-house printing and finishing expertise. Founder and Creative Director Yanko Djarov tells us, “for the 2020-2021 holidays, we chose this homemade chocolate spread because, as you know, (almost) everybody loves chocolate,” turning to their HR manager for the tasty recipe.

Leading the charge is the use of Grilli Type’s GT Pressura as the hero typeface of choice, striking a balance between contemporary classic tones whilst capitalising on the practical, technical strength of the typeface’s weights and styles. “We went for it because I wanted to achieve this classic, crafty look,” Djarov explains, “and at the same time have a product that looks somehow contemporary and up-to-date,” providing the opportunity for GT Pressura to fill the space offered by the packaging homogeneously, typeset in an appropriate mix of brown and copper hues.

“I wanted to go away from regular gold and wanted to achieve a warmer and tastier look and feel,” Djarov notes, adding, “I also managed to match the copper foil and the jar’s copper lid perfectly,” touching upon the tactile and material importance of the project. “We came up with all the materials, dielines, sizes, shapes, etc.,” he recalls, crafting bespoke shapes for every paper touchpoint, all sharing a single paper stick. “I hot foiled the box myself on my 1950 Heidelberg Cylinder,” Djarov proudly concludes, “and the labels on one of my manual presses.”
