Sometimes Always' identity for São Paulo-based bar Caracol has up to 10 billion possible outcomes
Caracol is a bar in São Paulo, Brazil that plays host to a different musical guest each and every day. Their identity, designed by local studio Sometimes Always, reduces the shape of a snail (the Portuguese to English translation of Caracol is ‘snail’) to its simplest form, a circle.
The sheer number of visiting artists to the bar is represented through a bespoke generative app. Developed in collaboration with Bloco Studio, the app combines 1 of 4 types of circle with 9 colour and 7 layout options to create up to 10 billion possible outcomes by hitting the space bar on the keyboard. Since opening in 2018, Caracol has posted a unique visual to their Instagram account nearly every day.
