Cybersecurity company Abnormal have sought the help of San Francisco and London-based branding agency A LINE in the creation of their digital-first visual identity. Charged by the concept of precision – a theme indicative of the work behind the scenes at Abnormal – in tandem with the cutting edge technology at their disposal, A LINE have produced a slick, approachable identity that demonstrates the values at the core of the company.

This was achieved through the identity’s accessibility and elementary approach to typography and composition; with a precise grid system implemented to direct and synergise the company’s many moving parts. Be it photography, iconography, type or animation, this sense of precision and simplifying of complex issues is overt across the identity. The significance of the grid also goes one step further by representing the prominence of AI within the technology Abnormal use. In doing so, providing a logic, structure and order previously unfathomable by a human mind.

The complex technology behind the scenes, as well as Abnormal’s bold intentions, led to A LINE’s similarly bold wordmark, the basis of which comes courtesy of Nolan Paparelli’s TWK Everett. Capitalising on its geometry and abstracted acute connections to further accentuate Abnormal’s precision, the sans serif’s ink-traps also increase recognition and legibility of the wordmark on micro and macro scales.

The angular nature of TWK Everett also inspired the use of 3D renders and photography across the extended brand. “The 3D assets we based these on the angled line of the logo and the grid in the identity,” Co-Founder and Creative Director James Trump tells us, “using a mix of straight on and dynamic camera angles to capture a bold yet precise feel.” Looking to produce a pragmatic and distinctive collection of assets for Abnormal, Trump concludes, “that could be used as a hero asset in place of photography,” partnering with Uniforma to do so.
