Mark your calendars: Birmingham Design Festival 2024 returns to celebrate the creative process

A landmark of the UK design calendar, the Birmingham Design Festival (BDF) is making a joyful return in June 2024, with its full festival format promising an unforgettable celebration of local, national, and international design. Over three action-packed days, more than 80 world-class speakers will take the stage, part of a line-up that features over 100 must-see events across multiple venues in the UK’s vibrant ‘second city.’

The festival’s design districts – Graphic, Digital, Product, and Illustration – will provide in-depth exploration into the practices of creative individuals. This year, BDF is embracing the theme ‘Process,’ presenting behind-the-scenes insights into the day-to-day workings of diverse fields, from hand-lettering and craft to architecture, copywriting, and stop-motion animation.

Speakers announced so far include creatives such as Lettering Artist & New York Times Bestselling Author Jessica Hische, Seachange’s Amanda Gaskin and Tim Donaldson, Johnson Banks’ Michael Johnson, Graphic Designer for film Annie Atkins and Creative Director of Character Design at Sesame Workshop Louis Henry Mitchell, and many more.

As if that wasn’t enough, the festival will also dazzle attendees with special evening events at the Giant Screen at Millennium Point, showcasing the speakers’ work on the biggest screen imaginable. The icing on the cake? Most of the events will be free to attend, making this an incredibly accessible festival for all design lovers.
